If you have been following me for a while then you know I have some serious OCD. Over the past few weeks I have stuck to my NY Resolution and have been cleaning and organizing each room. Last year I found some awesome printables that had 1 thing to clean/organize each day of the month. After 6 months my house was completely organized in every way possible so I didn't have a big job this time.
Whether you are super busy or just lazy, the plan I have developed is sure to work and help you maintain some organization in your home.
Steps to organizing your home and life...
Set a goal to spend 15 minutes a day for the next 30 days doing 1 task a day.
I recommend starting a family binder (binder w/ page protectors, add in important papers, menu plans, etc. Here is a site to help give more details and also has printables.
Make a list of the number of closets and drawers you have in your home and they will be 1st on the list.
Within 2 weeks (maybe less) all closets and drawers will be cleaned and organized. REMEMBER if you don't use it, toss it or donate. It's always a great idea to have 2 bags on hand, 1 for trash 1 for donations.
The next week you will pick 1 room each day. Spend 15 minutes dusting,wiping the room and vacuuming and or mop floor.
During the 4th week, focus on papers, mail/magazines for the 1st 3 days of the week. During the next 3 days focus on cabinets in kitchen/bathrooms. Keep in mind shouldn't take longer than 15-20 mins.
On day 30 your last day, look around and see what is left and tidy loose ends.
After the 30 days, dust, wipe and vacuum 1 room a day for 15 mins and your house should stay organized. Besides the normal daily chores like dishes, laundry and picking up things, following this plan should make them things a lot easier.
The household binder has been an awesome help. It helps keep all my records and menu planning together. Along with a few other things that are important to our household.
